It's better to Rent than to Own in Portugal for Tourists
If you are planning to travel across the world to areas like Spain and Portugal it is less expensive and less confusing to rent your own car as opposed to transporting your personal vehicle.
One of the most beautiful places in the world to visit is Portugal. This is especially true during the summer seasons. Many tourists travel there and look for a car hire in Portugal, which are typically inexpensive, to do most of their site seeing. This is a much better option than one taking their own car on a plane ride over there, from say America, and using it to travel. This is because driving in Portugal is very different and much more difficult for American drivers.
The main reason that driving an American car is more difficult than finding a car rental in Portugal is because the roads, and rules of the road, differ from American traffic. The first thing one will notice is that, like most European roads, driving tends to take place on the right hand side as opposed to the left. This can be a bit confusing at first in a European car with a steering wheel on the right hand side as well, but at least that car is made with the road in mind. Driving an American car on the street in such conditions will only add to the confusion and could cause an accident.
Also their speed limit signs are presented in Kilometers as opposed to miles. Therefore, one will have to be very good at converting their miles per hour on their speedometer to that of kilometers per hour. Then again finding a car hire in Algarve is simple enough, and they already have their speedometers in kilometers per hour making it easier for any driver, especially foreign ones, to stay within the speed limit avoiding tickets and accidents.
There is also the expense to consider. Transporting one's car from one country to another is very expensive, and when most individuals move to another part of the world they often sell their car to buy a new one in the part of the world. This helps them avoid the expense of transportation, but also helps give them a down payment on a new vehicle as well. So, if people moving to Portugal won't bring their own car then it is also a good idea that tourists don't either. Finding a cheap car hire in Faro is much easier and less expensive so why even go through the hassle of bringing a personal car?
