West, East, North and South: The Treasures of the Algarve Take It to the Stars
Get a car hire in Faro to go the distance during your vacation. Even if you think the only propulsion you'll need upon exiting the airport will be that attained through a powerful (or leisurely) swim stroke. That might be the case for some, but it's not really for all.
Indeed, the beaches are marvelous fun, but the area offers so much that it'd be a real shame to miss out on all of the drier activities. For these, you'll get a great run from your car hire; Portugal is not known to disappoint. As matters stand, if one goes by the calculations of certain persons with a particularly pronounced bent for counting figures, Portugal's Algarve region has more hotel rooms and visitor accommodations -- like villas and specially kept vacation apartments -- than the grand total found in all the remaining parts of the country.
If you're going to want to see a little bit beyond the immediate loveliness of the area, then your exploration will demand a car hire. Algarve rewards, in mounts of unbelievable visions of handsome sandstone cliffs and ancient lagoons. When you arrive in Faro, what will you want to do first? Head west and you'll be able to see the fabled Atlantic coastline. Head east, and join fellow ecstatic tourists as they bob in warm lagoons that echo the well-known comfort of the Mediterranean. (The Atlantic's more temperate waters have been known to surprise more than one avid Mediterranean swimmer upon experiencing its first mild chill.)
If you want your Faro car rental to take you even farther, you could plan a short sojourn up towards the northern regions of the Alentejo plains. If you travel up this way you'll have a good chance of catching the sights at some of Portugal's medieval castles and the renowned ancient city of Évora. For those with lucky stays during the spring time, something that's not to be missed for the world is the sight of the wild flower blooms. Also, it should be mentioned that the fabled holiday region has more than two dozen golf courses: San Lorenzo, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, and Pinheiros Altos are among the best known.
